Community Crafters: Tim and Holly of Grace in Growlers

Q+A

How do you want to be remembered?

People. People are important. People are what make life matter. I spent so much of my life living for me. My life is drastically different now because…we don’t take a dollar from this place, we work crazy amount of hours for other people, and it’s so rewarding. What I want people to remember about me, about this place is just that people matter and that a community of people joining together to do good things—you can change the world.

Favorite word?
Grace.

If you were a box of cereal, what would you be?

Trix.

Why?

I don’t know. It’s fun.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you have?

My wife, craft beer….and, oh gosh, more beer.

Not related to you, who has had the most influence on you?

Can it be my wife? She’s not related to me. She is an incredible person. We wouldn’t be doing any of this without her. She pushed us to do more in life. She’s been super super into working with the homeless. We were successful, not rich or anything, but she was always like, “this is not what life’s about”. She influences me like crazy. She’s made me a better person, for sure. You’re like, “Shoot, I should have been talking to her this whole time!”

How do you define success?

People think we’ve made it [with Grace in Growlers], and we haven’t. We haven’t proved anything yet. It’s been four months. It’s doing well. But success is just knowing who you are and not changing. Know who you are, know why you’re doing it, and just keep doing it. Have a super laser-like focus, like “this is what we’re doing and this is why we’re doing it.” And I think that’s what will end up successful.

What comes next?

Big big big dreams, I want to open up a million of these. In many different communities, and be involved in that specific community. I would love to open up one everywhere, mainland, Australia, town, and just be involved in that specific community where community members for that area are buying beer and that money is staying in that community and doing awesome things in that community.

Musubi or poke?

Musubi. I like them both though.

What’s your favorite shave ice flavor?

Oh. Li hing mui all the way.

Are there any coffee shops we might bump into you at?

The Curb! It’s right there.

Who is Tim?

I’m an extra-extra-extrovert who just loves people. I’ve come to a point where I know that people matter. We’re all works in progress. I like beer too. Do you want some more beer?
